Anoint It All! Pekudei

What does it mean to be “anointed”? Two words in the Hebrew are listed for anointing, cuwk, סוך, (pronounced sook) and mashach, משח, (pronounced maw-shakh).
Cuwk relates to “in the toilet” meaning anoint, anoint self, at all. “And, you shall bathe and anoint yourself, and put your garments on and go down to the threshing-floor. Do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking.
-Ruth 3:3.
Oils were applied to sooth the skin in the dry climates, especially the face. Ointments for health and and healing were also made and applied. The first cuwk is used in scripture is  Deuteronomy 28:40, “You have olive trees in all your border, but do not anoint with oil, for your olives drop off.
Mashach, means anointed, to smear, annoint. Kings were annointed. This was part of the rules of government. 1 Chronicles 16:22 states “touch not mine annointed“. This annointing would be where Mashiach “Annointed One” (an authorized and empowered leader) comes from. Shields were anointed  (Isaiah 21:5, 2 Samuel 1:21). Mashach is also used in Jeremiah 22,14, referring to painting a house with color. The first time mashach is used in scripture is in Genesis 31,13, I am the God of Beth-El where you anointed a memorial stone, where you made a vow to Me. Get up now and leave this land, and return to the land of your relatives.”  This week’s portion, pekudei, tells us,

And shall take the anointing oil, and anoint the Dwelling Place and all that is in it, and shall set it and all its utensils apart, and it shall be set-apart. “And you shall anoint the altar of the burnt offering and all its utensils, and set the altar apart, and the altar shall be most set-apart. “And you shall anoint the basin and its stand, and set it apart. “And you shall bring Aharon and his sons to the door of the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water. “And you shall put the set-apart garments on Aharon, and anoint him and set him apart to serve as priest to Me. and shall anoint them, as you anointed their father, and they shall serve as priests to Me. And their anointing shall be for them an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations.” And Mosheh did according to all that HaShem had commanded him, so he did.  Exodus 40:9-13, 15-16

Oil for annointing, shemen ha-mischah . Contained myrrh, cinnamon, sweet cane, & cassia according to Exodus 30:22-25. Made by the skill of a perfumer. This was a Divine skill if you catch my drift. We’ve discussed the oil in Olive You , it’s purity and excellence! Some anointings were done according to the Ruach  (Spirit), such as when David was annointed King(1 Samuel 16) and some were to be done according to The Holy One Himself. What was to be anointed? EVERYTHING! And they were not stingy! On the first day of the first month, one year after their deliverance from Egypt, there stood the Tabernacle! The altar, its vessels, the basin, the garments of Aharon, the garments of Aharon’s sons.

The fragrance of the Bridegroom! The aroma of the Messiah, the Mashiach filled the Tabernacle. Marking the things and the people who were to be set apart to Him! The Sign of the Messiah’s coming!

A Song of Ascents. Of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, coming down upon the beard —Aaron’s beard— coming down on the collar of his robes. It is like the dew of Hermon, coming down upon the mountains of Zion. For there Adonai commanded the blessing —life forevermore!
Psalms 133:1-3

The Right Clothes Make The Man

image

Do the right clothes make the man? We’ve all heard the phrase, “Dress for success”.  For the most part I’m all about putting your best foot forward. How do we dress for success for The Holy One Himself?  This week’s Torah portion pekudei, we find the weavers busy creating the Priestley Garments.

And of the blue and purple and scarlet material they made woven garments, to do service in the set-apart place. And they made the set-apart garments which were for Aaron, as HaShem had commanded Moses.
Exodus 39:1

According to HaShem these garments were for glory and for splendor. The hebrew word for garments here is beged, meaning apparel.  Beged comes from the root bagad,בגד,  (pronounced baw-gad) meaning to act or deal treacherously,  treacherous.  The first this word is used in scripture is Exodus 21:8, “If she does not please her master who has selected her for himself, then he is to allow her to be redeemed. He will have no power to sell her to a foreign people, seeing as he has dealt deceitfully (bagad) toward her.” The first time the word is used as beged (garments), is when the Servant of The Holy One brings ornaments and garments to Rebekkah in Genesis 24. It took me a minute or two to make the connection here. When man sinned in The Garden The Holy One provided for them skin, or a covering for their “nakedness”. They no longer pleased Him, but He must allow them to be redeemed, bought back, or rescued. The Hebrew letters beit, gimel, dalet form both words. Consider,  the family within the tent (beit) can be lifted up or be sustained on its own, this is self will(gimel), but there is one door(dalet) that leads to the way of life.

Let’s just glance at the “garments” being fashioned for Aaron. Garments that were made with “wisdom and understanding”

1.  Specially designed jeweled breastplate. The choshen (The Breastplate of Righteousness). This was woven, complete with the Shoham stones encircled each with gold. In each stone was according to the twelve tribes.
2.  The efod, a unique apron. Hold was actually rolled out into very thin sheets and slivers were cut from the sheets. These threads were woven into the materials.
3.  A robe, sky blue in color. A picture of Heaven. With pomegranates and bells hung from the hem.
4.  A Tunic, white referencing purity, Righteousness
5.  Turban, a head covering
6.  Sash, also referred to as the belt of Truth
7.  Linen breeches, to hide your nakedness, modesty
8.  Crown made of gold, signifying royalty.

Each piece was woven into a seamless piece, except the sleeves of the robe.  Aarons garments were part of the mirror image The Holy One showed Moses. So in essence, these were a shadow of the garments of Our Great High Priest. When Aaron is clothed in these garments he is reflecting the glory and splendor of The Holy One! Whose beauty are the clothes we wear designed to reflect? Whose identity and priorities do our garments we put on testify?

He put on righteousness as a breastplate and a helmet of salvation on His head. He clothed Himself in robes of vengeance and wrapped Himself in zeal as a cloak.
  Isaiah 59:17

Stand firm then! Buckle the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness.
  Ephesians 6:14

But since we are of the day, let us be sober-minded—putting on the breastplate of faithfulness and love, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not destine us for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Yeshua the Messiah. He died for us so that, whether we may be awake or asleep, we may live together with Him.
1 Thessalonians 5:8-10

Then Yeshua said to His disciples, “So I say to you, do not worry about life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will wear. For life is more than food and the body more than clothing. Consider the lilies, how they grow. They neither toil nor spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass in the field—which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow—then how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith?
  Luke 12:22-23, 27-28

Sometimes the Right clothes do make the man!

May everything we do be as The Holy One instructed Moses!

Torah Study Tuesday ~ Pekudei

The opening of this week’s portion pekudei (פקודי ) begins with a detailed list of the amounts of gold, silver, and copper that were contributed for the construction of the Mishkan  (tabernacle). Despite the indisputable integrity and greatness of Moses and Bazalel, Moses still made a full accounting of all proceeds and contributions. This involves more than just taking inventory. This is intimate accountability! A vivid experience of The Holy One’s intimate gaze!

Pekudei comes from the root paqad ,פקד, meaning, to pay attention to, closely observe, to muster, to pass in review, visit, to poke, probe, palpate. The first we see paqad in the Hebrew text is in Genesis 21:1,  And Hashem visited (paqad) Sarah as He had said, and Hashem did unto Sarah just as He had spoken.

We find the title of the portion in the opening verse, Exodus 38:21,

These are the accounts of (pekudei)  the Tabernacle of the Testimony, as they were recorded according to the commandment of Moses, by the service of the Levites, under the hand of Ithamar son of Aaron the kohen.

As usual, let’s break down the the word pekudei in the Hebrew text and see what we discover!

image

We see from the opening verse that is was Moses’ commandment that this accounting be done. He will act as the “announcer” or “teacher”.  We are also told 19 times in this portion that everything was done just as “The Holy One commanded“.  Good to note that Moses was 80 years old when he went to Egypt to lead the Children of Israel out of exile.

He afflicted you and let you hunger, then He fed you manna —which neither you nor your fathers had known—in order to make you understand that man does not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of Adonai .
  Deuteronomy 8:3

He was oppressed and He was afflicted yet He did not open His mouth. Like a lamb led to the slaughter, like a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He did not open His mouth. Because of oppression and judgment He was taken away. As for His generation, who considered? For He was cut off from the land of the living, for the transgression of my people— the stroke was theirs His grave was given with the wicked, and by a rich man in His death, though He had done no violence, nor was there any deceit in His mouth.
  Isaiah 53:7-9

But He (Yeshua)  replied, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
    Matthew 4:4

image

The Kuph was originally a picture of the back of a mans head. The idea being portrayed as that of “following” after or behind, or to follow in a circuit or cycle.  We know that during this portion the Children of Israel carried this out this week. If they hadn’t done everything in accordance with The Holy One’s instruction, His Glory would have not been revealed.

And the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us. We looked upon His glory, the glory of the one and only from the Father, full of grace and truth. John testifies about Him. He cried out, saying, “This is He of whom I said, ‘The One who comes after me is above me, because He existed before me.’” Out of His fullness, we have all received grace on top of grace. Torah was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Yeshua the Messiah.
  John 1:14-17

Yeshua answered, “If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing. It is My Father who gives Me glory—the One of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’ Yet you do not know Him, but I know Him. If I say I do not know Him, I will be a liar like you. Yet I do know Him and keep His Word. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day; he saw it and was thrilled.” Then the Judeans said to Him, “You’re not even fifty years old and you’ve seen Abraham?” Yeshua answered, “Amen, amen I tell you, before Abraham was, I am!” Then they picked up stones to throw at Him, but Yeshua hid Himself and went out from the Temple.
  John 8:54-59

How fortunate and holy is the one who has a share in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no authority, but they shall be kohanim of God and the Messiah, and they shall reign with Him for a thousand years.
  The Revelation 20:6

Then He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will freely give from the spring of the water of life.
  The Revelation 21:6

image

We have building going on, of course, we will have “joining together” happening. Notice the number value of six, that is the number representing man. We have a picture of man becoming one, not only with The Holy One but, with each other!

For He has not despised or disdained the suffering of the lowly one. Nor has He hidden His face from him, but when he cried to Him, He heard. From You is my praise in the great assembly. I will fulfill my vows before those who fear Him. Let the poor eat and be satisfied. Let them who seek after Him praise Adonai . May your hearts live forever! All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to Adonai . All the families of the nations will bow down before You. For the kingdom belongs to Adonai , and He rules over the nations. All the rich of the earth will feast and worship. Everyone who goes down to the dust will kneel before Him—even the one who could not keep his own soul alive. His posterity will serve him, telling the next generation about my Lord. They will come and declare His righteousness to a people yet to be born— because He has done it!
    Psalms 22:25-32

Yet it pleased Adonai to bruise Him. He caused Him to suffer. If He makes His soul a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, and the will of Adonai will succeed by His hand. As a result of the anguish of His soul He will see it and be satisfied by His knowledge. The Righteous One, My Servant will make many righteous and He will bear their iniquities. Therefore I will give Him a portion with the great, and He will divide the spoil with the mighty— because He poured out His soul to death, and was counted with transgressors. For He bore the sin of many, and interceded for the transgressors.
  Isaiah 53:10-12

Then they took Yeshua . He went out, carrying His own crossbar, to the Place of a Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. There they crucified Him, and with Him two others, one on each side and Yeshua in between. Pilate also wrote a sign and put it on the execution stake. It was written, “YESHUA HA-NATZRATI, THE KING OF THE JEWS.” Many Judeans read this sign, because the place where Yeshua was executed was near the city; it was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek. The ruling kohanim of the Judeans were saying to Pilate, “Don’t write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that He said, ‘I am King of the Jews.’” “What I have written, I have written,” Pilate answered.
   John 19:17-22

This Mishkan is a mirror image of the Tabernacle above! The heart of this Divine contained the Ark of The Covenant. All to show His Word is The Way!

“Amen, amen I tell you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs in some other way, is a thief and a robber. But he who enters through the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice. The shepherd calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. “When he has brought out all his own, he goes ahead of them; and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. They will never follow a stranger, but will run away from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” Yeshua told them this parable, but they did not understand what He was telling them. So Yeshua said again, “Amen, amen I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All those who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate! If anyone comes in through Me, he will be saved. He will come and go and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal, slaughter, and destroy. I have come that they might have life, and have it abundantly!
   John 10:1-10

I know your deeds. Behold, I have set before you an open door that no one is able to shut—because you have little power, but you have kept My word and have not denied My name.
The Revelation 3:8

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.
   The Revelation 3:20

image

At the end of this portion the Shekinah will fill the Tent of meeting, a deed done, all systems GO!  The number 10 is “perfection”.

the twenty-four elders fall down before the One seated on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever. And they throw their crowns down before the throne, chanting, “Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, For You created all things, and because of Your will they existed and were created!”
   The Revelation 4:10-11

Yeshua spoke these things; then, lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, so the Son may glorify You. Even as You gave Him authority over all flesh, so may He give eternal life to all those You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Yeshua the Messiah, the One You sent. I glorified You on earth by finishing the work that You have given Me to do. Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world came to be.”
  John 17:1-5

Pekudei  is All about Yeshua!   Remember the root paqad can mean “pay attention”. The Great Shepherd will be closely inspecting all we do and say for the purpose of promotion or correction. This is a matter of  intimate accountability!

From His mouth comes a sharp sword—so that with it He may strike down the nations—and He shall rule them with an iron rod, and He treads the winepress of the furious wrath of Elohei-Tzva’ot .
  The Revelation 19:15

Redemption in Pekudei

What does the beginning of “Redemption” look like? Is there a price to pay? Then what? How do we keep from building another “Golden Calf” ? Following Torah, that is the answer my friends!
The book of Exodus opens with a Nation, the Children of Israel, the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob being led out of Egypt by The Holy One Himself by the hand of Moses. Along with them, were the “foreigners”. Living as slaves in exile, this was only the beginning of the Redemption! The newly redeemed  marched out of bondage and took all the wealth of Egypt with them. The goods they contributed to the Tabernacle building fund would have been worth today, around 15 Million.

Here’s the breakdown from Exodus 38:   in solid gold, there were 29 talents and 730 sheckels (v. 24). This would be valued at over $3,000,000.00 today.  Silver was recorded totaling 100 talents and 1775 sheckels (v.25). This amount of silver would be worth over $5,000,000.00 today. Finally there was the nachoshet, translated bronze in most bibles. The redeemed brought 70 talents and 2400 sheckels (v.26). Today this would bring around $2,000,000.00. If you are keeping track, we are up to Ten Million Dollars so far! Factor in the exotic oils and spices, semi and precious stones, rare woods, animal skins, the elaborate fabrics. According to several accountings, we are looking at a tent in the wilderness that was worth today a grand total of $15,000,000.00. To me this is almost overwhelming to think about.

Redemption in Hebrew is the word geullah. This comes from the root word ga’al, גאל, (pronounced, gaw-al).  Ga’al is defined as redeemed, to redeem, act as kinsman, avenger, bought back, buy back, claim, rescue, closest relative. This terminology is used frequently in “covenant” relationships.  Lets look at the picture this word makes:  ga’al is gimmel, alef, lamed. Something lifted up (like a camel from it’s knee) [gimmel] by The Holy One [alef] who will now proceed to guide, teach, prod, and move forward [lamed]. A purposeful intervention! Moses here is the one who is standing to “shepherd” the redeemed. He is the one that inspects all the donations, each and every item passed through his inspection.   He is the one with the staff!  He will serve as the mediator, the announcer, and teacher.

There is a Covenant here that was established with Abraham and his “seed”.  This Covenant is Firm! The Holy One is not going to change His Mind on Anything!  We are looking here in Pekudei the renewal process of relationship between The Holy One and His redeemed. We are embarking upon Shalom (peace) my friends! The Redeemer will now look down and gaze most intimately at His Bride to evaluate her for the purpose of promotion and/or correction (through Moses).  After the Golden Calf debacle, trading  the “stuff” for the Manifest Presence of The Holy One, was being brought out of darkness and into the Light! They were ready to do and obey! To enter into that Covenant that was fulfilled by the blood of The Lamb! The Messiah Yeshua!

It’s definitely, All about Yeshua!  Torah, The Covenant, every move The Holy One makes! It’s about bringing us out of Exile and coming close, dwelling, in a Mishkan (a Tabernacle) with The Holy One Himself! His Torah is the Covenant we must pass through. And that Covenant was fulfilled by Our Messiah.  This entire Redemption story is a picture of when Yeshua will appear and end the horror and usher in an Era of unsurpassed Shalom!

Look how Paul references the Tabernacle here in 1 Corinthians, chapter 3:

7. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only G-d who makes things grow. Now he who plants and he who waters work as one, but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. 9 For we are G-d’s co-workers; you are G-d’s field, G-d’s building.10 According to the grace of G-d which was given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and another builds on it. But let each consider carefully how he builds on it. 11 For no one can lay any other foundation than what is already laid—which is Yeshua the Messiah. 12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’s work will become clear. For the Day will show it, because it is to be revealed by fire; and the fire itself will test each one’s work—what sort it is. 14 If anyone’s work built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss—he himself will be saved, but as through fire. 16 Don’t you know that you are G-d’s temple and that the Ruach Elohim (Spirit of G-d) dwells among you? 17 If anyone destroys G-d’s temple, G-d will destroy him; for G-d’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.

May we all see the marvels of His House established on earth, in our lives, and in our world!

A prayer of Moses the man of G-d.
My Lord, You have been our dwelling
    from generation to generation.
 Before the mountains were born,
or You gave birth to the earth and the world,
even from everlasting to everlasting,
    You are G-d!

Psalm 90:1-2

Happy Day

A Willing Heart

The number 13 in Hebrew is a beautiful number.  Most of us have grown up thinking 13 is a very unlucky number. This may change your thinking! In the Hebrew, ahava (אהבה) is the word for “love”.  Look how the letters add up. Alef =1, hey =5, & beit =2.    1+5+2+5=13!

And Moses spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, “This is the word which HaShem commanded, saying, ‘Take from among you a contribution to HaShem. Everyone whose heart so moves him, let him bring it as a contribution to HaShem : gold, and silver, and bronze, and blue, and purple, and scarlet material , and fine linen, and goats’ hair , and ram skins dyed red, and fine leather, and acacia wood, and oil for the light, and spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet incense, and shoham stones, and stones to be set in the shoulder garment and in the breastplate.  Exodus 35:4-9

Moves here in Hebrew is nadab (נדב), meaning offer freely, be give, make, offer self willingly. A primitive root; to impel; hence, to volunteer (as a soldier), to present spontaneously –offer freely, be (give, make, offer self) willing(-ly).

Moses is calling upon the children of Israel for their treasures. They brought it too! Precious metals, raw materials, vast quantities of gold, silver, and copper, beautiful fabrics, and jewels were given! The purest of olive oil and exotic spices were all brought with enthusiasm and emotion. The Children of Israel will now offer willingly all their remaining remnants of Egypt.

My daughter and I were discussing the story of how Job, being a man who loved HaShem so much, had EVERYTHING taken from him! Satan had permission from HaShem to try his best to see if Job would curse G-d.  At his lowest, most miserable moment, in agony he knew Salvation. He knew the love of HaShem. Talk about a soldier!

What is mankind, that You magnify him, that You set Your heart on him, that You visit him every morning, and test him in every moment?~Job 7:17-18

Pure gold cannot be given for it, nor can its price be weighed in silver. It cannot be weighed in gold from Ophir, in precious onyx, or sapphire. Neither gold or crystal can compare with it, nor vessels of fine gold exchanged for it. And He said to mankind, ‘The fear of the Lord —that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.”’~Job 28:15-17, 28

“Where were you when I laid the foundations of earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who set its dimensions —if you know— or who stretched a line over it? On what were its foundations set, or who laid its cornerstone— when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? ~Job 38:4-7

If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels but have not love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all that I own and if I hand over my body so I might boast but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not brag, it is not puffed up, it does not behave inappropriately, it does not seek its own way, it is not provoked, it keeps no account of wrong, it does not rejoice over injustice but rejoices in the truth; it bears all things, it believes all things, it hopes all things, it endures all things. Love never fails— but where there are prophecies, they will pass away; where there are tongues, they will cease; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part; but when that which is perfect has come, then that which is partial will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. But now these three remain— faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love.  1 Corinthians 13:1-13

This is the love of the Father! The love of Yeshua! The love of the Bridegroom-King! Calling His bride! The assembly who have given freely what connected them to lives of slavery for The Covenant!    The Torah and The Testimony of Yeshua!

There were 13 different items brought to Moses for the building of the Dwelling place of G-d! With a willing heart, the Children of Israel built a house of Love!

Love,

T.G.I.F.

e1f24f4cab2c1ad30ee95f98f453fb4e.jpg

When Friday comes around, say about 3:30-ish , can you start to feel the excitement in the air around you. The traffic outside picks up, some are getting off work. People begin to even walk a little faster! The end of the work week is here! This is the Spirit inside you that is stirring for that day of rest. That Sabbath Peace! The Seventh Day! The One day that is set aside to do nothing! My favorite day of the week! SHABBAT! (שבת)

Once upon a time there was a lot of confusion, and people wanted to celebrate in different ways.  There were some who had gods of their own they wanted to worship. This “Constantine” thought he’d be some kind of hero and combine some of what HaShem (The Name, of G-d) said with what the people wanted (pretty sure there were some “pride” issues here) and life as we know it, well, just keeps getting more and more messed up. I found a great link to understanding a little history of this situation below. To make a long story short the Sabbath (Hebrew, Shabbat) was changed.  Yes, I know this might sting, but the “church” made a terrible decision to play like they were HaShem.

This week’s Torah Portion, Ki Tisa, Moses is given the instructions on counting the Redeemed, the Laver (the large copper basin), the Announcing Oil, Bazalel  (whom HaShem gave His “Holy Spirit” to) and his role in the building of the Tabernacle. In addition to the work that must be done on the Dwelling Place of HaShem, Moses has the Tablets and we have this issue of The Golden Calf that must be dealt with. In everything that is happening HaShem throws in, Don’t Forget My Sabbath!

And HaShem spoke to Mosheh, saying, “And you, speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, saying, ‘My Sabbaths you are to guard, by all means, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, to know that I, HaShem, am setting you apart. ‘And you shall guard the Sabbath, for it is set-apart to you. Everyone who profanes it shall certainly be put to death, for anyone who does work on it, that being shall be cut off from among his people. ‘Six days work is done, and on the seventh is a Sabbath of rest, set-apart to HaShem . Everyone doing work on the Sabbath day shall certainly be put to death. ‘And the children of Yisra’ĕl shall guard the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant. ‘Between Me and the children of Yisra’ĕl it is a sign forever. For in six days HaShem made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’ ” And when He had ended speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Mosheh two tablets of the Witness, tablets of stone, written with the finger of Elohim.
Exodus 31:12-18

HaShem actually has now repeated the words, For in six days HaShem made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed for the third time since the Beginning, right here in this portion! Reminding the Children of Yisra’ĕl, with everything I gave you to do, on the Seventh day, rest! You have been counted among My Redeemed. There is nothing else I want you to do this week.

Let’s  examine the Hebrew text:
My Sabbaths:   this is plural meaning every Sabbath
by all means:    aken (אכן) meaning certainly, never the less, surely, truly.
guard:   shamar (שמר), keep, preserve, beware, body guard, defend, pay attention, take heed.
sign:   avah (אוה) to sign, mark, describe with a mark, point out, to extend or mark out.
Set apart: kadosh (קדש), apartness, sacredness, most holy, consecrated, dedicated, set apart. …This is what the angels around the throne sing, “Kadosh, Kadosh, Kadosh, Adonai Tzva’ot”  (Holy, Holy, Holy, is the L-rd G-d Almighty!
Everyone who profanes it:   chalel  (חלל), to pierce, defile, break
Put to death:  muth (מות), worthy of death
Observe:  asah  (עשה), meaning also, accomplish, advance, appoint, apt, be, at, become, bear, bestow.
Covenant:   comes from barar meaning make bright, choice, chosen, cleanse, give meat, be clean, clearlt, polished, purify, purge out.
Forever:   olam (עולם): long duation, antiquity, always, Everlasting,  permanent, Eternity.

The disciples refer to Shabbat, that it was made for man and that Yeshua Himself is L-rd of Shabbat.   ~”Then He said to them, “ Shabbat was made for man, and not man for Shabbat. So the Son of Man is L-rd even of Shabbat.”
Mark 2:27-28.  Matthew agrees  ~”For the Son of Man is Lord of Shabbat.”
Matthew 12:8

The sixth day (Thursday sundown, until Friday at sundown) is known as the Day of Preparation.  ~Now it was the Day of Preparation, and Shabbat was approaching. The women who had come with Him from the Galilee followed, and they saw the tomb and how His body was laid. Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. But on Shabbat they rested according to the commandment.
Luke 23:54-56

One of the definitions of the word covenant was to feed meat. Notice how HaShem says to Isaiah, if you turn I will feed you …this my friends, is the Covenant! ~“If you turn back your foot from Shabbat, from doing your pleasure on My holy day, and call Shabbat a delight, the holy day of Adonai honorable, If you honor it, not going your own ways, not seeking your own pleasure, nor speaking your usual speech, then You will delight yourself in Adonai , and I will let you ride over the heights of the earth, I will feed you with the heritage of your father Jacob.” For the mouth of Adonai has spoken.
Isaiah 58:13-14

So there remains a Shabbat rest for the people of God. For the one who has entered God’s rest has also ceased from his own work, just as God did from His. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one may fall through the same pattern of disobedience. Hebrews 4:9-11

Shabbat (the Sabbath) is a gift! A Divine Gift. You will never understand it until you give in and do it! The Sabbath is a small taste, a glimpse of what Heaven will be like! HaShem is calling you,  “Be with Me, let Me Feed you, rest, become Mine, Forever”.

Happy day!

The history of How The Sabbath was changed from Saturday to Sunday.

Torah Is Everything!

I was ask this week from one of my clients if I was turning Jewish.  Pleasantly surprised,  I responded, “Well, you know ‘Jesus’…He was Jewish.”

Over time many have confused the very things that man has “made up” with what HaShem (G-d) has made. Speaking the words, “It’s all about relationship”, yet sadly,  are only in relationship with the world. The Jews (those that study) understand the written Torah (which is All about Yeshua), the Christians (those that study) have an understanding of the physical Yeshua. Neither seem to have the fullness of this glorious Bridegroom-King!  Without Yeshua and without Torah, you have no Truth! So therefore you are left with, your own way.  The I Want Everything,  I want it my wayMaterialism mentality.

HaShem desires unity with and among His People.  This unity is magnified in this week’s Torah Portion, Ki Tisa  (Exodus 30:11-34:35). The beginning of the portion starts out with HaShem telling Moses, “When you take the census of the children of Yisra’ĕl, to register them, then each one shall give an atonement for his life to HaShem, when you register them, so that there is no plague among them when you register them. “Everyone among those who are registered is to give this: half a sheqel according to the sheqel of the set-apart place, twenty gĕrahs being a sheqel. The half-sheqel is the contribution to HaShem. “Everyone passing over to be registered, from twenty years old and above, gives a contribution to HaShem. “The rich does not give more and the poor does not give less than half a sheqel, when you give a contribution to HaShem, to make atonement for yourselves. “And you shall take the silver for the atonement from the children of Yisra’ĕl, and give it for the service of the Tent of Meeting. And it shall be to the children of Yisra’ĕl for a remembrance before HaShem, to make atonement for yourselves.”
Exodus 30:12-16

We’ve already looked at the beginning verse When you take the census.  It may be loosely translated and could very well read When you lift the head. So now comes the giving part. HaShem wants a half sheqel, a ransom, an atonement, a covering (these are the definitions for the Hebrew word kopher, כפר). This half a sheqel is to HaShem. It is an atonement for himself, his own life, his own soul, his very nefesh (נפש).  Why a half a sheqel?  My guess is 1/2+1/2=1. Did you notice how everyone, whether rich or poor, is to give the same amount? This sheqel was not to count us, it was to show us unity.  This lifting of the head and bringing the silver is two halves becoming one. See the relationship?  Remember,  all the silver given formed the sockets which held together the foundation of the Tabernacle. Unity!

This isn’t just any census. HaShem never wanted us to count people. Counting people leads to plague.. just think about it…  “And I shall make your seed as the dust of the earth, so that, if a man could count the dust of the earth, then your seed also could be counted.” This is what HaShem spoke to Abraham in Genesis 13:16. I believe there are also references to the sand of the sea, the hairs of your head, and the stars in the sky!  King David dared to number the people and when he did, HaShem was not happy. The bible shares His thoughts, “And it was evil in the eyes of Elohim, concerning this matter, and He smote Yisra’ĕl.”..you can get the full story in I Chronicles 21. This is verse 7.

Consider Matthew 17,

When they had come to Capernaum, those who received the temple tax ( the half-shekel of silver mentioned in Exodus 30) came to Peter and said, “Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?”
      He said, “Yes.”
And when he had come into the house, Yeshua anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Peter? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons – or from strangers?”
Peter said to Him, “From strangers.”
Yeshua said to him, “Then the sons are free. Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.”

Have you ever notice that the ‘temple tax’ which the men who accost Peter are trying to collect in this story is the same ‘half-shekel of silver’ per person mentioned in Exodus 30?
Now look closer.  Notice that Yeshua says there will be, in the fish’s mouth, ONE COIN.  Note also that this ONE COIN is to be given to the collectors of the ‘temple tax’ on behalf of both Peter and Yeshua. The ‘tax’ of Exodus 30 requires payment of exactly one half-shekel (of silver, pursuant to the holy measurement) per person. The coin was supernaturally provided in the mouth of the fish must, therefore, since it will suffice for two people, weigh one whole shekel.

Everything about the Tabernacle of HaShem is based upon things that are whole – not halved. It would be unfitting to use a half-shekel coin.  Something – or someOne – must make the half-shekel become whole.
SomeOne must provide that which we lack. SomeOne must cover our insufficiency, and complete our ‘atonement’.  Each of us provides only a half-shekel.  In Whose Name is the other, corresponding half-shekel – the half-shekel that completes our atonement – provided?  It is provided, for each of us as it was for Peter, in the Name of Yeshua.

Without joining our half-shekel to Yeshua’s our atonement is incomplete, insufficient, and inadequate.  But the Holy One’s mathematics are supernatural. He allows Yeshua to provide the other half-shekel for all of us!
Taking a census then, in the few instances when it was directed, was always designed by HaShem to lead His people to look forward to the coming Messiah – the one who would pay the price to make their half-shekel whole, and make it sufficient for atonement.

Unity only happens when you smash the “Golden Calf” (idolatry) in your presence, lift your head and be counted among those who’s ransom has been paid by the attonement.  It is your covering.  Just like the 1/2 sheqel was to turn us from, “I Want Everything ” to “Here, Take it All!”   It brings us away from materialism (the idols), sets us apart,  and becomes everything we need.  Torah is our covering, our atonement!  Yeshua fulfilled the words of Torah. The grave couldn’t hold Him because there was no sin in Him. The accusations were there, but He was spotless.    If you want to know the Truth, go back the beginning. May we all focus our attention and energy on what HaShem has called us to do and be.
Happy day,

Olive You

You may notice that all liquids, when mixed together, will blend into a single “concoction”.   Except for oil, it does not intermix, it will always separate. It floats to the top, rises above.

From this week’s Torah Portion (Tetzaveh), Exodus 27:20  “Also you are to command Bnei-Yisrael , that they are to bring to you pure olive oil beaten for the light, to cause a lamp to burn continually.

Immediately after the various instructions about the building of the tabernacle and creating it’s furnishings, and vessels, and tools another mitzvah (commandment). A donation if you will, that the Children of Israel will have to keep themselves busy doing.  Only oil from the first pressing from the olive was accepted as fuel for the menorah.  It was only the first few drops that were “clear” (without sediment). Why select olive oil? Look how Israel is likened to the olive tree.

HaShem called your name— a leafy olive tree, beautiful with well-formed fruit.. Jeremiah 11:16

Let’s visit again the word pure in the Hebrew. It is always good to have a better understanding, after all, it is The Word of The Holy One!  The primitive root is zakah, זכה, meaning blameless, to be clear, clean, pure, cleansed. Pretty much, the true nature of Holiness.  The word olive originates from the word kathath ,כתב , pronounced ‘kaw-thath’, meaning crushed, to beat, crush by beating, defeated. The oil, שמן, shemen , meaning fat, oil, choice, fatness, fertile, and ointment. Then you have the word beaten, zayith, זית, meaning olive tree.

Consider the blameless, Genesis 17:1 says  When Abraham was 99 years old, HaShem told him to “continually walk before Me and you will be blameless”.  Noah was a righteous man, according to Genesis 6:9, He was blameless among his generation, he walked continually with HaShem.  Job was a man that was blameless and upright, he feared HaShem and shunned evil (Job 1:1). Satan tried his best, with permission from HaShem, to destroy Job’s righteousness,  but like pure oil, he rose to the top.

Yeshua spoke, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see G-d” (Matthew 5:8). Titus 1:15 says, “ To the pure all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving,  nothing is pure. Both their mind and conscience are defiled.” How is The Holy One to be in a relationship with someone who isn’t pure? It’s simple,  He can’t.

The innermost essence of who you are is pure. It is only the Evil Inclination, the yaitzer hara, which prevents one from serving HaShem. Submitting to Our Maker, Our Husband, the Bridegroom-King, means in this relationship we must purify ourselves. We must let Him make ourselves clean by immersion in the Word, the Torah! Messiah gave His life (“not having stain or wrinkle or any such thing”) So That His Bride might be Holy! So that His People be set apart, like the oil! Always rising to the top.

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness? What harmony does Messiah have with Belial? Or what part does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement does G-d’s Temple have with idols? For we are the temple of the living G-d —just as God said, “I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their G-d, and they shall be My people. Therefore, come out from among them, and be separate, says Adonai . Touch no unclean thing. Then I will take you in. I will be a father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says Adonai -Tzva’ot .” Therefore, since we have these promises, loved ones, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of body and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of G-d.  2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1

Spread The Love!

image

Human nature is desire for connection with another, to love and to be love. Pure, safe, healthy love. I haven’t met a person yet, who didn’t desire this. Today, I was leaving the grocery store, walking next to a young woman that had vibrant purple hair with black at the base (I can’t help but to notice the hair first. 🙂 At first glance, besides the purple hair, she was dressed completely in black, spikes around her neck, and some facial jewelry to match. She looked at me as I looked at her, I smiled and said, “Did you know that purple is the color of royalty?” She smiled and her face lit up (I saw her beauty). She responded, “I didn’t know that, thank you.”
Today we begin a new week. This week’s Torah portion is titled Tetzaveh. You can read this portion in your bible in Exodus 27:20-30:10. Let’s just examine the title. Tetzaveh, תצוה , in Hebrew, means you shall command. The tav, (ת) meaning the mark, sign, covenant, joining two things together. The tsade, (צ) symbolizes a fish hook, desire, man bowing down. The vav  (ו) shows joining together, nail, peg, becoming bound, making secure. The last letter, heh (ה), it means to reveal, to show, behold, G-d’s breath.
This portion deals almost exclusively with the Kohanim (priesthood), their selection, their vestments, and the inauguration services by means of which their children and their children’s children would become confirmed for all time.  What might this have to do with you or me.

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9

The growth of a covenant where a man bows in submission before The Holy One and becomes marked or bound to the revelation of G-d. This just might be a better explanation than “you shall command”.
The children of Israel just built the Mishkan, the dwelling place, the tabernacle in the wilderness, the place by which G-d will dwell “in” His People.  The place where His Word is to be guarded, kept, treasured.  If your heart just happens to be the dwelling place for this same “love”, then it is time to start living like royalty, His Way. The veil was torn so that all could find ….hello…..Torah. This is what was stored behind the veil, in the precious Ark of The Covenant,  below the Mercy Seat (meaning atonement cover). Yeshua’s blood fulfilled it all so ALL may follow Torah and have the words of eternal life.
After Yeshua taught His disciples about how He was the “bread of life” some just didn’t get it. They thought it was too hard. They grumbled, complained, some walked away, fell away, however you like to think of it. But Peter says it all, here, you read it:

So when many of His disciples heard this, they said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can listen to it?” But Yeshua knew His disciples were murmuring, so He said to them, “Does this offend you? Then what if you see the Son of Man going back up to the place where He was before? It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is of no benefit. The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and are life! Yet some of you do not trust.” Yeshua knew from the beginning who were the ones who did not trust, as well as which one would betray Him. Then He told them, “For this reason I’ve told you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by the Father.” From this time, many of His disciples left and quit walking with Him. So Yeshua said to the Twelve, “You don’t want to leave also, do you?” Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life! We have trusted and have come to know that you are the Holy One of God.” John 6:60-69

Does Torah offend you? You are nothing without it. It’s Life. And you cannot speak life if you really know nothing about it. You cannot love if you really don’t know what love is. Every person created has an essence of greatness. G-d made us like that. As a Royal Priesthood, our first duty in the portion is to keep the lamp “illuminated”.  Sometimes that lamp may be barely shining in our fellow man or woman and we may need to “fan the flame” slightly. Learning to see that beyond the shell to the core of who He created us to be for Him helps us to see the same in others!
Let His Word change you. Your very essence is Greatness, Royalty, & Righteousness with or without purple hair.

Paradise Restored

image

“And let them make Me a sanctuary that I may dwell among them.  –Exodus 25:8

How glorious it is that we to possess the very Word of G-d. Right at our fingertips for most of us. Blessed be HASHEM (The Name), Giver of The Torah!  Blessed be Yeshua, the Torah made flesh! The One of Whom it is written, in Revelation 21:3, “I also heard a loud voice from the Throne saying, ‘Behold, the dwelling place of G-d is among men, and He shall tabernacle among them. They shall be His people, and G-d Himself shall be among them and be their G-d.'”

So let’s dive into another little jewel in the Torah portion Terumah. Terumah, meaning offering. [For a greater explanation of the word “Terumah”, you are welcome to read, “More Than Just An Offering”] I’d like to share one verse with you today,  Exodus 25:8. The reason behind the exalted, wholehearted offering. Notice in Revelation 21:3, that we just read, this Sanctuary in Exodus, is going to be The very dwelling place of Elohim! So He can Tabernacle with His people. This is how the “relationship” works, my friends.

The Tabernacle was supposed to be “Paradise Restored”. Could this be G-d’s way of attempting to dwell again with His People. After all, we are told, “And they shall know that I AM the L-rd their G-d that brought them out of the land of Egypt, that I may dwell among them. I AM the L-rd their G-d. Exodus 29:46. You know the word, Emmanuel,  means “G-d With Us”. Back in the day that it was just Adam, Eve, and G-d, they dwelled together in the garden.  Then sin came in and G-d seperated Himself and closed up the garden and set up guards!

A Sanctuary“, comes from the Hebrew word “Mikdash”,(מקדש)[pronounced: mik-dawsh], meaning also sacred place, holy, holy place. Mikdash comes from the root word Kadosh (קדש), meaning apartness, sacredness, consecrated, dedicated, set apart. How does G-d desire to dwell with you? He wants to dwell with you in His Sanctuary!

Next phrase in Exodus 25:8,  that I may dwell. Wait for it… this comes from the word Shakan, שכן, meaning not only to dwell, but to abide, to settle down, to remain.

Let’s see the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) here! At the age of 12, Yeshua went to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover.  As their caravan departed,  Yeshua was lost! Three days they searched, can you imagine? They found Him in the Temple. And what did He say to them, “Why were you searching for me? Didn’t you know I must be about the things of My Father?” (Luke 2:49) …they didn’t get it.  The Greek text here reads, In English, Why (is it) that you were seeking me not knew you that in the (house) of the father of me it behoves to be me? Dei eimi” is “‘behoves’ ‘to be‘. Two words here. Dei, meaning it is necessary, it is a duty, what is proper, must, at the very core. Eimi, “to be”, can also mean I am, I exist.  Knowing this you might say Yeshua was telling His loved ones, “It is necessary,  it is My duty, I AM! He is the Center, at the Core, The Very Sanctuary! The dwelling place of the Sh’khinah (the Presence of G-d).

And the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us. We looked upon His glory, the glory of the one and only from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 is another tabernacle reference. Who is Messiah? He is our dwelling place, the living Word, our sanctuary.

Indeed, even 1 Corinthians 6:19 says our bodies are a temple that belong to G-d. Your temple, your body,  HaShem is letting you dwell in and there is no place for idols according to 2 Corinthians 6:16. Followed by verse 17, ” therefore , come out and be seperate….then I will take you in.”

“I AM the vine; you are the branches. The one who abides in Me, and I in Him, bears much fruit; for apart from Me, you can do nothing.” There’s another way to dwell with The Father! To remain, abide, produce the fruit! This is your duty just as it was Yeshua’s!

What makes something holy? Adam was the very first man created by G-d and so it continued, generations came from him. Put yourself in Adams place. Ask, “am I on my own, seperated from the Presence of G-d, in need of the promise. Beloved, it’s right here, the Gospel message! Where do we go? To the dwelling place! The Sanctuary!  His Torah!
Shalom,
